Karel de Grote-Hogeschool (Karel de Grote University College)

The Karel de Grote-Hogeschool was founded in 1995 as an amalgamation of 13 Catholic university colleges in Antwerp, each with a long tradition and a reputation for quality, and is now a new dynamic institute with approximately 7.250 students involved in a wide range of study programs: Art and Design, Health Care, Commercial Sciences, Business Administration, Applied Social Studies, Teacher Education and Industrial Sciences and Technology (engineering).

The Karel de Grote-Hogeschool department of Industrial Sciences and Technology (engineering) offers a range of study programs (both bachelor and master) in different disciplines such as Electromechanics, Electronics-ICT, Automotive Technology, Multimedia and Communication Technology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering and Biomedical Laboratory Technology.
The department of Industrial Sciences and Technology has many research groups who are competence centers with local and international references. The Electromechanical group has expertise in rational energy and environmental healthcare programs, while the Biochemical group has international references in waste water treatment and in development-aid programs. The Industrial Automation group is accepted as a Siemens and Scheider Automation Competence Center. They also have accepted references in the Object Linking and Embedding for Process Control (OPC) foundation group and in Industrial Vision Technology. Automotive expertise is present in the Automotive Technology Group but also spreads over other groups. This covers the mechanical aspects of power, traction, motor performance, the electronical aspects of process data communication and the chemical and biochemical aspects of (bio)fuel production and analysis. Recently new research fields have been added covering the thermal characterization of chemical reactions, production of biobased raw materials, production of nanoparticles, …

The different research groups are open for cooperation on topics in their field of expertise but can also offer services to third parties. Our mission statement comprises partnership, multidisciplinary expertise and full engagement, said items being embedded in KdG’s basic philosophy of sustainable development and respect towards people and nature.
